Singapore Rebel

filed under Singapore

I watched Singapore Rebel today. This is the movie about Dr Chee Soon Juan, an opposition politician in Singapore. Guess what, this film exceeds the M18 and even R21 rating. It can't even be shown in Singapore. Apparently, it's a "party political film". Fcuk it. What can a video clip do to PAP?

A legal analysis of party political films can be viewed here.

I don't know who put up this film on the Internet. But thank you for doing so. This is the best present for our 40th National Day. Dr Chee has revealed ugly little details about the government that many Singaporeans thought is the best in the world.

Dr Chee provides a very interesting analysis of Singapore laws. There are unjust laws and just laws in Singapore. Unjust laws are laws the government made up to oppress people and show their power. Banning Singapore Rebel is the manifestation of an unjust law.

Here is a man who faced so many prosecutions in his life and yet he is continuing to fight for democracy and freedom of speech. In the film, we see the life of a politician very different from that of his PAP counterparts. An old office in an old shophouse, while PAP politicians worked in designer offices.

We see the irony and lack of truth of two quotes from PM Lee in the film.

"We are an open, multiracial and cosmopolitan society.
We enjoy a good reputation in the world.
Our people should feel free to express diverse views, pursue
unconventional ideas, or simply to be different."

- Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, 2004

Where is the money? This simple question results in the prosecution of Dr Chee. He was demanding Mr Goh Chok Tong to tell where the loan given to Suharto's regime has gone. According to Dr Chee, Mr Goh pointed to his own pocket. But the media didn't report it. Mr and Mrs Goh, this money aren't peanuts to poor old peasants like us. Stop pocketing our money!

"We should recognise many paths of success,
and many ways to be Singaporean.
We must give people a second chance.
Ours must be an open and inclusive Singapore."

- Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, 2004

Dr Chee is a Singaporean too. I believe he can be a very successful politician. He's doing everything for the rights of Singaporeans. Isn't this a way to be Singaporean? Why bar him from the General Election?

You can download the clip here or here. I'm considering a torrent file for distribution. But I cannot guarantee anything now.
